We finally did it!!!
Thanks to all the encouragement from moms and also mustering up all the courage inside of us, we started sleep training Rylie yesterday. We originally planned to start after our Hawaii trip, but that meant a few more weeks of me carrying our 17 pounder to sleep. The determining factor was when I had to carry Rylie for her afternoon nap for one hour and I just couldn’t do it anymore (physically, mentally, or emotionally). It just happened that Youkeun purchased a video monitor yesterday, so out of my exhaustion I suggested that we start. We did our whole night time routine and as I put her to bed, the crying already began. I kept reminding myself to look at the bigger picture. As Youkeun and I looked at the monitor we couldn’t help but giggle a little. Before the video monitor, we only imagined what she was doing in her crib and sometimes used our own imagination. Now, we saw her tossing and turning, sticking her fist into her mouth, her legs kicking every which way, and fingers scratching the bumper to soothe herself.
We did our first check in 5 min after the crying began, then 10 min,… then before the 15 min check in time, she magically fell asleep!!! I was prepared to go for an hour, but she fell asleep in just 24 minutes! Youkeun and I looked at each other shocked and asked, “You think she’s still breathing?” We started hearing her heavy breathing, so we knew we were in the clear.
We were also successful in all our naps today and I’m currently writing my post after putting Rylie to sleep (it only took 9 minutes tonight.. wow!!!). I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m a proud and relieved mama!
I was also thinking about starting to wean her off of her 2 night feedings, but last night, she slept for 12 hours straight with no feeding. Maybe I can finally get my ZZzzz’s.

Wow! U guys are lucky. It took us a week to get Cameron sleep trained… and she cried for over an hour most nights…
you got through it easy. congratulations!!!

yay!!! don’t you feel like you can breath now!!!!! so happy for you! now i hope your back gets better. we should meet sometime. i’m sure our little ones would have a great time together. now get ready for solids soon.. it’s a whole new world.
that’s so good! it was hard to let ryan cry it out too but did wonders.. i’m glad it worked for you guys! can’t wait for ava to get there!
yay for rylie!!! and you guys:)
yay! i’m so happy for you. i know it was tough, but i knew you guys coul do it.
congrats. sounds like rylie adapted fast. our noah cried for 45mins first time but got the hang of it after few nights. he actually threw up few times from crying so hard which was not fun. as for emilee, she’s a rebel so she is still inconsistent. we had to take her out of her crib b/c she fell out of it (still not sure how….) so it’s hard to do cry to sleep now. she’s 1 3/4 and she still wakes up in the middle of the night. warning: hawaii trip might throw rylie off so be sure to keep her separate from you guys with a playpen or something so she doesn’t get used to sleeping with you guys again. but congrats on this big accomplishment!
congrats! you’ve inspired me. Adeline was sleeping well and then something happened where she kept waking up every 2 hours again. so we were determined to get her through the night again and she’s done it for three days now.
730pm-6am
thanks for the boost of motivation. BTW! rylie’s hair is so cute. tell her auntie liz will buy her hair clips when she’s ready.
