  • Crib Tent… Help!!!!

Both Youkeun and I ended up going to sleep at 3:30am last night. Rylie woke up at 1am crying her eyes out, so I went in and held her till she fell asleep. I put her down and she started crying again … this hasn’t happened since she was an infant. I started feeling under the weather, my whole body was aching, and I was begging her to go to sleep. This made it worse.
Hubby came in and ended up holding her and so the pattern went like this: she would fall asleep, he would put her down, she would cry, he would try to come out of her room, and she would start climbing out of her crib!!! What da heck??? We didn’t even know she was able to do that, nor were we prepared. She did this for 2 1/2 hrs and tried to climb out of her crib 3 times. Half of her body was literally hanging out of her crib and she was now smart enough to realize that this would cause us to come running in for her. At the end, we were all exhausted and we finally had her sleep on the floor with Youkeun.

Now, we are terrified that she will try to climb out of her crib again and get injured. We don’t want to move her to a toddler bed just yet, so we’re thinking about purchasing a crib tent. Has anyone had the same problem or tried using a crib tent?

  • Wow! She’s a little monkey.  I was thinking of just putting a mattress on the floor and letting Trystan sleep there, but I can see how that can be a little ghetto.  i have not tired the crib tent but i’m thinking if she doesn’t want to be in the crib the tent is not going to help.  it will just make it harder for you to pick her up if she is crying.  if you’re getting the flu try oscillicoccinum. it really works. i hope you guys get some much needed rest tonight.

  • I think the crib needs to go away now until you and Youkeun have your second baby. Either that or you could threaten Rylie to take away all her outfits and shoes.

  • I’ve been told by numbers of people that when the child is capable of climbing (or almost climbing) out of the crib, it is time for the toddler bed. Abbie never slept in her crib (we now only use it as decoration ) so I am not the best person to give out such advice, but we have Abbie sleep on a queen size mattress on the floor and it is working out perfect for us. Like when she wakes from her nap, she just gets out of bed, opens her door, and comes out to announce she is now up.

  • sounds like she might be ready for a toddler bed?? sucks that you all had such a hard night. we’ve had a couple of those and remember how exhausting it was. hope you are getting some well needed rest and hoping it doesn’t happen again!

  • @Girl_Interrupted118 - we’re doing the queen mattress on the floor too and what i mean by “we” is that I’M sleeping with her too! you’re so lucky abbie sleeps by herself and with the door closed?!! i miss my bed.

  • E has never tried to climb out of his crib (I don’t think he knows how).  But, my friend uses the crib tent and LOVES it!

  • K is still in her crib and A slept in it until she was three.  Yes, THREE.  then we just put her in a regular bed and she did fine.  neither one of my kids tried to climb out, ever.  sorry, i’m no help in this department.

  • Emilee fell out of her crib when she was like 1 1/2 (i think). We’re fortunate she didn’t get hurt but it could have been a lot worse… so we got rid of the crib that same night and put an infant/toddler bed inside her room. Then we put a gate at her door so that she doesn’t come out and stumble down the stairs. To this day, we still don’t know how she fell out of her crib b/c she was still so small back then…

  • @tommyandstaci - did she transition smoothly? i feel like rylie might be too young and not ready. how did you guys help her with the transition?

  • gosh, i hope the crib tent works out for you guys~ *fingers crossed*
