  • Sleep Update

I can finally take a sigh of relief as Rylie is finally back to being a happy baby in her crib. She’s still a little reluctant once I say “Clean-up Time” since a nap usually follows, but at least she is not screaming and crying in her crib. I was open to moving her to a toddler bed, but wasn’t sure if she was ready. The other choice would be to install a crib tent … there was no way we could sleep her in the crib and have a peace of mind. So we tried both:

    Thurs night:
Rylie was bawling and climbing out of her crib several times. She never fell (maybe she was scared), but I went in while her whole body was laying on top of the crib rail. She ended up sleeping on the ground that night. We didn’t have time to convert the crib into a toddler bed, so I just got a bunch of blankets and created a place for her to sleep comfortably. She slept until 5:50am and came looking for me when she woke up.

    Fri night:
Youkeun picked up a crib tent from our friend and let Rylie play in it before we installed it to get her excited. She cried for nearly an hour before falling asleep. She slept till the morning… yay!!!

    Sat night.
She woke up at 12am crying. I felt so bad and told Youkeun maybe she’s trying to let us know that she’s ready for a bed. So… we created a little bed on the floor and I was planning to stay in there with her till she fell asleep. I ended up falling asleep and woke up around 2am to find her playing with a toy we usually keep in her bathtub!!!! This girl walked into the bathroom in the middle of the night, got her toy, and brought it back into her room to play with it. I don’t think she ever fell asleep. I told her that she needed to sleep or that she was going back into her crib. After a little while, she started getting up to play again. This is when I realized that we had to put her back in and explained to Rylie what was going to happen. I put her back in and she fell asleep after crying for about 15 min.

    Sun night:
She laid down and went right to sleep!!! And she slept till the morning!!! Hallelujah~

    Mon nap:
She was back to playing and talking in her crib before she fallingasleep.

  • maybe shorting the naps will help her sleep better in the evening….some kids just don’t nap anymore..or maybe having a video before bedtime then again, when she wakes up……..Sammie has gone through that..but because i worked, i always winded up sleeping with her….Seems like this certain lullable always worked on Sammie and now Gracie….Whenever, I sing this song, both of them would just get knocked out…odd…..but Gracie is showing that exact same sign…….trust me, its a made up song…lol……awwww, i know how stressful it is……….definitely, cutting back on naps…will help…….keep us posted.

  • yikes! i can’t believe her whole body was on the railing!! glad she held on. good to hear that she’s back on track.

  • free? always! just let me know a cpl days before and the time. we can do lunch or early dinner.

  • woooah sounds like a tiring week for you guys, but i’m glad she’s back onto her good sleeping schedule.  we had a problem with gavin trying to crawl out too, but those crib tents don’t fit on our crib and we had to just take him out and sleep him on the floor.  he’s been on the floor now since…oh….10 months old?  yah, he was a little monkey and still is.  so tiring, huh?

  • oh~ so this is what your hubby was talking about. he mentioned it last sat. at E’s dol, and it sounded pretty scary! thank God she never fell out! good to see that she’s back on track though.. how much longer are u planning to keep her in the crib??  lol. i was telling your husb.that rylie reminded me of me when i was a baby/child because i was told that i was climbing EVERYTHING!

  • @yun_bug - the tent doesn’t fit our crib perfectly either, but it seems like she’s used to it now. she’s actually excited to show it off to ppl… almost like it’s a cool thing now :) i have so many questions… was gavin’s tranition pretty smooth ? does he have his own room and if he does, do you guys close the door while he sleeps or just put a gate at the door?

  • @K_G_C - lol.. i remember youkeun mentioning your story. I was in disbelief that you actually climbed a tree! I think we’re planning to use the crib until she’s at least 2… I’m crossing my fingers!

  • @helenxmelon - aww that’s so cute.  hahaha.  she has such a personality!

gavin has his own room, but we cleared out an extra room we had and just put a few toys in there and diapering stuff.  in the beginning we put a playzone in there and had him sleep in there on the floor and it worked out really well!  when we did this, he has basicaly ALL this space to roll around in and i guess since he wasn’t confined to that tiny crib, he started to sleep through the night!!!  well…i think that worked for a couple months until he started to climb the playzone!!!!  so we completely got rid of the playzone and now he sleeps on the floor without any type of “boundaries”.  the first few days or so were rough because he would roll and roll and like roll into the wall or the closet and would wake himself up, but now he’s pretty used to it so it works for us.  i feel kinda bad making him sleep on the floor (i put a featherbed on the floor with blankets and stuff), but i’m not sure a toddler bed or regular big kid’s bed would work for us since he rolls around a lot and seems to not like the confinement.  i think maybe you should just do what works for you.  if the crib tent is working, then that’s great!!  i really really wish he would sleep in his crib and not try to climb out, but i think the climbing part is like “fun” for him bc even when we left the door to the playzone open, he’d still try to climb it anyways!!!  oh and we close the door while he’s sleeping, but we have a video monitor in there ;)   another challenge we recently faced is that he can now open doors.  good gosh..it’s like problem after problem.  *sigh*

  • @helenxmelon - Yes im free next week, as it is pretty laid back for the most part. I think like 12-3 work well like last time? What about u? Lets meet up next week! :D

  • I remember when my daughter first learned to climb out of her crib… talk about sleepless nights.  We had to place our bed next to her crib so that she’d fall on our bed instead of the floor.  Now, she sleeps on a Queen sized featherbed on the floor because she rolls too much to sleep on a toddler bed.

  • wow! that sounds really tiring. I don’t know how you had that much patience, I woulda lost my mind. haha! glad to know that she’s getting into her sleeping habits again!
