I knew that one day, our couch was going to be used and abused by our child. This is because I did the same exact thing when I was little. Rylie first started using the couch to climb, then to jump on, and now, she’s graduated onto jumping off the couch. I’m glad Rylie is getting good use of this couch, but per daddy’s request, she is no longer allowed to jump off the couch w/o holding onto our hands. Safety first, fun second!

It’s already been 4 years since we got married… time goes by way too fast. I am horrible with numbers, so Youkeun thought of a clever way for me to never forget our anniversary date: 4 x 4 = 16, 4/16
. We were both craving cheese bread and immediately thought of Red Lobster. Rylie was well behaved during dinner, but once her tummy was full she was ready to get out of there.
I can finally take a sigh of relief as Rylie is finally back to being a happy baby in her crib. She’s still a little reluctant once I say “Clean-up Time” since a nap usually follows, but at least she is not screaming and crying in her crib. I was open to moving her to a toddler bed, but wasn’t sure if she was ready. The other choice would be to install a crib tent … there was no way we could sleep her in the crib and have a peace of mind. So we tried both:
Thurs night:
Rylie was bawling and climbing out of her crib several times. She never fell (maybe she was scared), but I went in while her whole body was laying on top of the crib rail. She ended up sleeping on the ground that night. We didn’t have time to convert the crib into a toddler bed, so I just got a bunch of blankets and created a place for her to sleep comfortably. She slept until 5:50am and came looking for me when she woke up.
Fri night:
Youkeun picked up a crib tent from our friend and let Rylie play in it before we installed it to get her excited. She cried for nearly an hour before falling asleep. She slept till the morning… yay!!!
Sat night.
She woke up at 12am crying. I felt so bad and told Youkeun maybe she’s trying to let us know that she’s ready for a bed. So… we created a little bed on the floor and I was planning to stay in there with her till she fell asleep. I ended up falling asleep and woke up around 2am to find her playing with a toy we usually keep in her bathtub!!!! This girl walked into the bathroom in the middle of the night, got her toy, and brought it back into her room to play with it. I don’t think she ever fell asleep. I told her that she needed to sleep or that she was going back into her crib. After a little while, she started getting up to play again. This is when I realized that we had to put her back in and explained to Rylie what was going to happen. I put her back in and she fell asleep after crying for about 15 min.
Sun night:
She laid down and went right to sleep!!! And she slept till the morning!!! Hallelujah~
Mon nap:
She was back to playing and talking in her crib before she fallingasleep.
At 19 months Rylie can…
- put words together. Her first was “bunny kka kka (cookies).” This morning, I was in bed and she told me “mommy go down, play.” She also told her daddy “bye honey” as he was leaving for work.
- she can jump. she enjoys jumping off the couch, but it scares us to death.
- she knows her basic colors. she looks for blue and yellow the most.
- she can finally say ” Yes” as of this week, but it actually sounds like “Ya.”
- climb out of her crib! yikes…
- strawberry seems to be her favorite fruit these days.
- she can climb into the bathtub by herself.
- she can take her diaper off
- she’s slowly starting to go pee pee in her potty. she is completely trained with poo poo.
Both Youkeun and I ended up going to sleep at 3:30am last night. Rylie woke up at 1am crying her eyes out, so I went in and held her till she fell asleep. I put her down and she started crying again … this hasn’t happened since she was an infant. I started feeling under the weather, my whole body was aching, and I was begging her to go to sleep. This made it worse.
Hubby came in and ended up holding her and so the pattern went like this: she would fall asleep, he would put her down, she would cry, he would try to come out of her room, and she would start climbing out of her crib!!! What da heck??? We didn’t even know she was able to do that, nor were we prepared. She did this for 2 1/2 hrs and tried to climb out of her crib 3 times. Half of her body was literally hanging out of her crib and she was now smart enough to realize that this would cause us to come running in for her. At the end, we were all exhausted and we finally had her sleep on the floor with Youkeun.
Now, we are terrified that she will try to climb out of her crib again and get injured. We don’t want to move her to a toddler bed just yet, so we’re thinking about purchasing a crib tent. Has anyone had the same problem or tried using a crib tent?
Rylie was suddenly hit with the worst snotty, stuffed nose EVER! She usually sleeps really well, but she was struggling till 10:30 pm last night. She woke up twice during the night and fell asleep while in my arms. She was up at 5:50am and luckily, Youkeun got enough rest to take over from there. I got in a good 2 hours before he had to go to work.
All morning, I was chasing her around wiping her snot away… poor baby. I really wish at these times that I can be sick for her. I’m just relieved that there’s no fever or coughing. Hopefully, this will pass soon!
Rylie is in LOVE with water and will run to it as soon as she sees it. Last week, my MIL asked us to meet her at Santa Monica Pier and I took Rylie knowing that she was going to have a blast. We took a stroll on the pier and then ended up at the beach to have lunch. All Rylie had eyes for was the water. She took off her shoes and started running towards it with her little legs. She went to dunk in her feet (and butt) with my MIL while I watched our stuff. They were having so much fun that when I asked her to come back for lunch, she started crying!!!
I handed her a ziploc bag and showed her how to put sand in it. This kept her busy for the rest of our trip.
Youkeun was gone all week, so Rylie and I were partners in crime
. The last time Youkeun was gone was way back when she was about 4 months old and my how things have changed now that I have a 1 1/2 year old on my hands. I had something planned each day for us and knew I had to keep busy to stay awake. I think I even asked her if I could take a short nap one day and she replied back with a stern “NO.” That’s the last time I asked her that question.
Anyways, here are some pics of all the fun things we did together…
I was brave enough to take her to Disneyland by myself… what was I thinking ?!?!?! I was a tired mommy after that trip, but it was all worth it seeing how much fun Rylie had. Here she is with her 3D glasses on. On this day, she took a record 3 hour nap!
