Today I got an hour massage from James because my back has been killing me. The main reason is probably because Rylie likes me to hold her while walking to fall asleep. I have to do this for all her three naps plus when she goes down for the night. I’ve tried semi-tried sleep training, but found it almost impossible to let her cry it out, so I’ve given up. As a result, James had to work on all the knots in my back. I felt so bad, but it was such a treat for me.
An hour of being in la-la landTo any parents out there with advice:
1) If I keep holding Rylie to sleep, will that be the only way she will go to sleep? How long does this last? (I don’t mind, but I’m just afraid my back won’t be able to take it as she gets heavier and heavier.)
2) Did anyone experience their child fighting sleep when it’s their nap time? Rylie tries to fight it in my arms which involves squirming and crying. What kind of methods did you use that seemed to help lessen the sleep fighting?
3) Is there any other method that worked for you in putting your child to sleep without letting them cry it out?

have yukon do it
don’t want to scare you, but i’m STILL sometimes forced to hold j until he falls asleep. =( i couldn’t let him cry it out either.
We implemented babywise and it did wonders for us. Babywise by Ezzo.
talk to Kayla
We sleep-trained. It was hard (took a few days), but trust me in a few months you will thank yourself.
you should try letting her cry it out at least for 10 minutes.. it’ll just be harder the longer you wait.. but i understand it’s hard when they cry longer than that to leave them crying.. but i let ryan cry it out when he was 2 months i believe.. i went with the book babywise but try healthy sleeping habits..
Hey Helen, Ill hold Rylie until she falls asleep!
Hey try to make it this weekend. Have
a good week
hey helen, we had to hold alissa in the beginning too. it was so hard to hear her cry. but i started with her naps. i let her cry for 5 min eat nap and then i would hold her. i would tell her tomorrow we would try 10 min and the next day 15. the funny thing was after letting her cry 15 min, i pick her up and she would knock out in my arms….. arrrgg..i thought that would be the only way to put her down. let her cry and hold her so she would fall asleep. but slowly my mom started putting her down when we knew she was really sleepy and she would cry but my mom would be by her side tapping her back and sshhhhing her. it seemed to work. cuz now she rather we put her down to sleep. she wont sleep on my arms anymore.(that is kind of sad too) hopefully this will help. it’s hard to hear them cry. but the end result of your back will be so much better. let me know if there is any other way i can help.
Haha, hope the massage helped! Take care of that back!
good luck helen!!
start teaching her math and how to read. That should knock her out. hahaha
no pain, no gain. she’s gonna have to cry a bit, but in the end, it’ll all be worth it. hang in there!
we had isabella cry it out, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be… full on crying was only for two days, after that, just little cries and tada! sleeping on her own… have you read weissbluth?…i dreaded it too, but my back couldn’t take it as well.. now i have to start all over because of the time change and crib situation:(…
awesome! thanks for the info helen!
hi helen. much like jane and cathy, i implemented babywise. it worked wonders for me. toby sleep fights when i try to hold him to fall asleep all the time (even now). he prefers to fall asleep on his own now. when i see some sleep cues, i put him down to sleep. sleep cues: rubbing of eyes w/ hands or on your chest, yawning. he used to cry up to 30 min. in the beginning, but now he’s out w/in minutes. hope this helps. hang in there..
Hi unni!
Just wanted to say,
HANG IN THERE!
Umm..I second Steve’s comment. I’ll hold herrrrrrrrrrrr!
All the missionaries here have like 5325235 kids…They say it gets easier…but the first time is the most memorable one. ^^
Seriously, I wanna bite her everytime I look at pictures.
*sigh*
